I’m Mark Thompson, 41 years old, and my experience with Wegovy was completely different from what I expected. When I first considered Wegovy for weight management, I was prepared to make lifestyle changes and follow a weekly treatment schedule.
What I hadn’t anticipated was how uncomfortable I would feel administering injections myself.
I thought I would become more confident with practice. Instead, each scheduled injection became something I worried about days in advance. Between occasional bruising, injection-site tenderness, and the stress of handling the pen, my experience gradually became frustrating.
The First Injection Made Me Nervous
I had never been comfortable around needles, but I convinced myself that a weekly injection would be manageable.
My healthcare provider explained the process, and I reviewed the instructions carefully.
Still, when the time came for my first injection, I hesitated.
I checked the pen repeatedly and worried about making a mistake.
Although I eventually completed the injection according to the instructions, I didn’t feel relieved. I immediately began thinking about having to repeat the process the following week.
That wasn’t the confident beginning I had imagined.
Every Sunday Became a Source of Stress
Sunday was my scheduled injection day.
Previously, Sundays had been relaxing. I usually spent time with family, prepared meals, and planned the upcoming week.
After starting Wegovy, I began associating Sundays with anxiety.
I would think about the injection throughout the morning, even when I had other activities planned.
Sometimes, I delayed preparing everything because I felt nervous.
I knew the injection was only one part of my treatment plan, but mentally, it began taking up more space than I expected.
The anticipation often felt worse than the injection itself.
Small Bruises Became a Big Concern
A few weeks into treatment, I noticed occasional bruising and tenderness around an injection site.
The bruises weren’t necessarily severe, but they made me uncomfortable.
I found myself checking the area repeatedly and wondering whether I had administered the injection correctly.
I contacted my healthcare provider to discuss the reaction and review the recommended injection technique.
I learned that mild injection-site reactions can occur, although persistent or concerning symptoms should be evaluated.
Even with that information, seeing a bruise made me more hesitant about the next injection.
I had expected a relatively straightforward weekly routine, not another reason to worry.
I Started Questioning Every Step
The more anxious I became, the more I second-guessed myself.
Was I holding the pen correctly? Had I selected an appropriate injection site? Was I following the instructions exactly?
I reviewed the medication guide several times and asked my healthcare provider to clarify anything I didn’t understand.
Although those conversations helped, my confidence didn’t improve as quickly as I hoped.
I didn’t want to make a mistake with prescription medication.
Instead of feeling independent and comfortable with the process, I felt increasingly dependent on reassurance.
That uncertainty became one of the most exhausting parts of my experience.
Traveling Made Everything More Complicated
My job occasionally requires short business trips, and I usually enjoy traveling.
However, managing a prescription injection while away from home introduced new concerns.
Before one trip, I spent considerable time reviewing the medication’s storage instructions and planning how to transport my prescribed pen appropriately.
I worried about changes to my routine, finding a comfortable place to administer the injection, and keeping track of my scheduled dose.
These concerns might seem minor to someone comfortable with self-injections.
For me, they added unnecessary stress to an already demanding schedule.
I Finally Admitted I Was Struggling
After several weeks, I realized I wasn’t becoming comfortable with the injection process.
I had hoped the anxiety would disappear with experience, but I still felt nervous before each scheduled dose.
During a follow-up appointment, I explained how much the process was affecting me.
My healthcare provider reviewed my concerns, discussed injection technique, and helped me consider whether the treatment remained suitable for my needs.
That conversation made me realize that practical difficulties deserve attention just as much as physical symptoms.
I didn’t need to pretend the experience was easy.
The Disappointment Went Beyond the Needle
Looking back, I wasn’t disappointed simply because Wegovy required injections.
I knew that before starting.
What surprised me was how much the routine affected my peace of mind.
I had expected to focus on healthy habits and my weight management goals. Instead, I spent considerable energy worrying about administering medication correctly.
The bruising, uncertainty, and weekly anticipation gradually overshadowed my initial optimism.
My Final Thoughts: Wegovy Wasn’t Easy for Me
My Wegovy experience taught me that a treatment can be difficult to manage even when someone understands the instructions and follows professional guidance.
For some people, weekly injections may fit comfortably into their routines. For me, they became a recurring source of anxiety.
I don’t believe my experience represents everyone who uses Wegovy, but it changed how I think about choosing a treatment.
If I could start again, I would discuss my concerns about self-injections before committing to the process.
Ultimately, I wanted a weight management journey that felt manageable alongside my everyday responsibilities.
Instead, I found myself dreading a routine I had expected to become easier. That was the most disappointing part of my Wegovy experience.
